On July 6th, the Government announced amendments to the Health Professions Act, requiring all regulated health colleges to increase public member representation on their Councils, Hearing Tribunals and Complaint Review Committees to 50 per cent of the total members, up from 25%. This new composition will create even representation of public members and regulated physiotherapists. This change will come into effect on April 1, 2021.
These changes will strengthen the public’s voice in the regulation of physiotherapists in Alberta. The College of Physiotherapists of Alberta will work with Alberta Health in the coming months to finalize the new composition of council as April 1, 2021 approaches.
