Effective May 1, 2023, all Provision of Professional Services Applications must be accompanied by evidence of completion of mandatory learning modules.
The College of Physiotherapists of Alberta has a regulatory role in the approval of practice settings in which physiotherapy services are provided. Section 10 of Schedule 20 of the Health Professions Act gives the College the authority to approve practice settings in which physiotherapy services are provided. In 2018, Council approved the Provision of Professional Services Policy.
In September 2022, Council approved a revised Provision of Professional Services Policy (2022). The revised policy requires that unregulated practice setting owners and Most Responsible Physiotherapists (MRPTs) complete learning modules prior to applying for authorization to provide professional services at a practice setting.
The purpose of the learning modules is to ensure unregulated owners and MRPTs possess the necessary knowledge and understanding of the Provision of Professional Services requirements, the role of the MRPT and physiotherapists’ professional expectations as articulated in the Standards of Practice, Code of Ethical Conduct, and governing legislation.
The training modules are now available.
Effective May 1, 2023, the College will only accept online applications related to the Provision of Professional Services.
The College has also adopted an online application process for Provision of Professional Services applications.
Training modules, application forms, and supporting documents differ depending on the ownership of the practice setting. Navigate to the ownership category relevant to your practice setting to find the correct training modules and application forms.
If you have questions about the process or are unsure which category your practice setting belongs to, contact the College Practice Advisor for further information.
Although these changes apply to Provision of Professional Services applications related to new practice settings, all business owners and MRPTs are able to access the learning modules and can choose to review the information to further their understanding of College expectations.
