The College of Physiotherapists of Alberta is currently seeking volunteers to take part in one of three sharing circles to be held in early 2024 in different parts of Alberta.
The purpose of the sharing circles is to allow dialogue between physiotherapists and Indigenous community members so that
- Indigenous people can help physiotherapists understand what they need to know about Indigenous patients in their care, and
- Physiotherapists can help Indigenous people to understand what they need to know about physiotherapy and physiotherapists.
Why is this important? Ensuring we have a dialogue between Indigenous people and physiotherapists is an opportunity to ensure we address what is needed vs. a top-down approach. The sharing circles will help to inform the resources the CPTA develops to support registrant understanding of the Draft Indigenous Cultural Safety and Humility Standard of Practice.
The CPTA has contracted Amanda Gould, Indigenous Cultural Advisor, to help us in this work and facilitate the sharing circles.
We will be holding sharing circles in person in northern, central, and southern Alberta. If you are interested in participating in one of the sharing circles as a physiotherapist participant, please complete this form. Please be aware that your contact information will be shared with Amanda Gould, Indigenous Cultural Advisor to enable planning and coordination of the sharing circles.
