As you are all aware, the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta (CPTA) has recently moved to competency-based appointments, rather than an election process, to fill vacancies on the College Council. I am pleased to report the CPTA received 14 applications from registrants interested in being considered for Council roles. The CPTA in collaboration with Halford Consulting reviewed all applications and evaluated each candidate based on the skills matrix and priorities determined by Council. I would like to thank each person who applied for their interest and taking the time to complete the application process.
I would like to take this opportunity to welcome Jon Gabbai, PT and William Tung, PT to the CPTA Council! Jon is a Director and Chief Operating Officer of a private practice in Calgary as well as a Senior Consultant with Alberta Health Services (AHS). He has previously sat on other committees with the College as well as the University of Alberta. William will be returning for his second three-year term and is a Professional Practice Leader with Alberta Health Services in Edmonton. William has served on several committees within AHS, the CPTA, and Grant MacEwan. We look forward to working with you both.
Lastly, I would also like to thank outgoing member, Grant Fedoruk for his time on Council. Grant was elected to Council in 2020 and served a 3-year term. He served as Vice-President for the 2022-2023 year. Grant has served on the College Council in previous years including in roles of treasurer, Vice President, and President.
Thank you to all of those who continue to work with the College to protect the public through excellence in regulation. We could not have made it through the last few years of unprecedented changes without those who volunteer their time and expertise to support the mandate of the College. I hope you all enjoy some much-deserved rest this summer.
Melissa Merrit, Council President
